 The
Early Years
Aaron Rubashkin’s story begins in a much different time and
place. He was born in the faraway town of Nevel, located in White
Russia. For Aaron, the early years in Nevel were filled with play,
study and work. He married Rivka and they started a family. Their
days were filled with the busy activities of every young family.
But peace and tranquility was not destined to last. The world was
rapidly changing and difficult years lay ahead.
World War II was raging. It was a dangerous time for Aaron and his
family. A hard decision was made. He and Rivka would leave White
Russia. They cautiously made their way to Austria, then to the safety
of France. It was in Paris that good fortune struck. Aaron shrewdly
saw an opportunity to support his young family by importing Kosher
meats to the newly founded state of Israel. The year was 1947.
In 1953 Aaron and Rivka made another major decision. They gathered
their possessions and with the children in tow moved to the United
States where they settled in the Boro Park section of Brooklyn.
Aaron teamed with a partner and founded Lieberman and Rubashkin’s
Butcher store. The business became a success. (It is still open
today and has become a Fourteenth street landmark.) During the mid-1980’s
Aaron was again presented with a life-changing challenge.
Many packers in New York and New Jersey were closing. It was becoming
increasingly difficult to keep a steady supply of quality Kosher
products in the store. Business suffered.
Aaron’s Search for the Very Best
With a rapidly dwindling supply of quality stock Aaron saw no other
choice. He began traveling in search of a source. He had to have
a steady supply of quality cattle, poultry and lamb. Aaron did much
research and traveled many roads, and again destiny played its roll.
He found himself in the bountiful American Midwest, in the very
northeast corner of Iowa, close to Minnesota and Wisconsin. There
he discovered the quiet farming town of Postville, Iowa. Postville
was surrounded by family farms that raised some of the worlds very
best grain fed cattle, poultry and lamb. This was exactly what he
had been searching for.
A Tradition of Quality Begins
Aaron’s search was over. It was time for action. A small processing
operation was opened in Postville. The community was perfect. It
not only provided a bountiful source of quality stock, it also offered
the capable people needed to operate his new plant. Aaron had again
found a partner to team with. This time it was the people of Postville
and the surrounding area. He could finally begin producing the quality
Kosher products he had dreamed of.
From that humble beginning has come dramatic growth. State-of-the-art
machinery now speeds production of hundreds of products. Aaron’s
Best Brand has become a shining success. They are one of America’s
largest suppliers of USDA inspected Glatt Kosher products.
From Our Family to Yours
When a man is so proud of something that it bears his name he is
driven to protect it. Aaron’s commitment to quality, and his
respect for tradition is as strong now as ever. Today, his passion
is equally shared by his grown children. Aaron Rubashkin’s
distant dream to produce the very best Glatt Kosher products in
the world has now proudly become their life’s work too. When
The Rubashkin family says... Produced with pride from our family
to yours...they mean it. It’s their commitment and promise
to you.
